The conference

The East African Community Conference 2026 (EACON 2026) is a two-day regional conference taking place 12–13 October 2026 in Mogadishu, Somalia, under the theme “Deepening Somalia’s EAC Integration Through Treaty Domestication, Trade Competitiveness and Human Capital Development.”
EACON 2026 is held at Amara Hotel, Mogadishu, Somalia — a secured venue near Aden Adde International Airport. See the Venue page for access arrangements and the Travel page for flights, visas and hotels.
The programme is organised around four interconnected pillars: (I) Domesticating EAC Integration and Institutional Readiness; (II) Competitive Markets, Trade and Regional Connectivity; (III) Strategic Investments, Bankable Projects and Economic Transformation; and (IV) Human Capital, Innovation and Future Workforce Development. Rapporteurs document every session. Their synthesis informs the EACON 2026 Declaration, the conference Communiqué, a set of Policy Briefs and the official Conference Proceedings, all published after the event.
Executive Roundtables are closed-door, solution-oriented sessions per pillar for ministers, CEOs, development finance institutions and investors, with space for B2B, B2G and G2G engagement. Fireside Chats are candid, moderated conversations with distinguished leaders, open to audience questions.
Not in the traditional format. Accepted papers are grouped into Research & Policy Dialogues, where researchers engage directly with policymakers, practitioners and business leaders in moderated discussion. This turns research findings into practical policy options.
No. The Call for Abstracts for EACON 2026 has closed and authors have been notified. Accepted papers are grouped into the Research & Policy Dialogues on the programme. Researchers who missed the deadline are welcome to attend as delegates and join the dialogues from the floor.

EACON 2026 convenes approximately 200–250 participants including federal government institutions, EAC Secretariat representatives, parliamentarians, development partners, institutional investors, private-sector representatives, universities and youth and women’s organisations. Yes. EACON 2026 is designed as a regional dialogue and welcomes delegates from all eight EAC member states as well as development partners and institutions across the region. See the Travel, Visa & Accommodation page for entry guidance.
Delegates confirm their participation with the secretariat, which then issues invitation letters and joining details. Organisations that should be represented at EACON 2026 are invited to write to info@eaccon.com with a short profile and proposed delegates. Everyone can follow the plenary programme through the live stream, published on this site on the morning of 12 October.
Both. EACON 2026 is a hybrid conference. In-person delegates gather at the conference venue in Mogadishu; virtual delegates follow the plenary sessions, keynotes, panels and Research & Policy Dialogues by live stream with simultaneous English and Somali interpretation.
In-person delegates receive joining instructions, venue details and, where needed, an invitation letter for visa purposes from the secretariat. The live-stream link and the programme in local time are published on this site and EACON’s social channels before the opening session.

Most delegates need a visa to enter Somalia. Once you confirm your participation, the secretariat issues a personalised invitation letter for your application. See the Travel, Visa & Accommodation page for the steps, passport requirements and the yellow-fever certificate rule.
Business attire for sessions and the opening ceremony; smart casual for the networking reception. October in Mogadishu is warm and humid, and the halls are air-conditioned.

Email info@eaccon.com with your name, outlet, role and the days you will cover. Accredited media receive a press badge, the media-room schedule and interview slots. See the Media Center for the press kit.
The EACON 2026 logo and visual identity are available to accredited media, sponsors and partners on request, with a short set of usage guidelines. Write to the secretariat with the intended use.
EACON 2026 is co-organised by Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education and Ministry of Commerce and Industry, SIMAD University, Somali National University, the University of Bayreuth, GIZ and the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA).
