Somalia and the East African Community
Somalia formally acceded to the EAC in 2024, becoming its eighth member state. EACON 2026 brings policymakers, institutions and the private sector from across the Community to Mogadishu to turn that membership into practical cooperation on trade, investment and human capital.

Access to this market will not automatically benefit Somalia. Somali institutions, firms, ports, standards systems and workforce must be prepared to compete, connect and deliver within the regional economy.

Why regional integration matters
A more integrated East Africa means freer movement of goods, capital, skills and ideas across borders. For Somalia, EAC membership opens access to the Common Market, regional infrastructure planning and harmonised standards.
