Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is a Somali politician, academic, and civil activist who is currently serving as the President of Somalia. He was first elected president in 2012 and then re-elected in May 2022, making him the first Somali leader to win a non-consecutive second term. A former university dean and founder of the Peace and Development Party, Mohamud is known for his focus on state-building, federalism, reconciliation, and fighting corruption.
